Court Types in Texas
Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Texas is composed of the Chief Justice and eight more justices and is located in Austin, near the State Capitol. The Justices are elected to staggered six-year terms in elections. When there is a vacancy, the Governor can appoint a Justice to serve out the remainder of an unexpired term until the next election.
Requirements
All members must be at least 35 years of age, a citizen of Texas, as well as being licensed to practice law. They must have practiced law for at least ten years.
